A new crochet work in progress!
I really wanted a crochet project to take along with me, there will be quite a lot of time spent on planes and trains, so I would rather spend that time doing something useful (providing they let me take my hook on the plane, I’ve read mixed stories regarding that!).
As usual, I set myself quite a list of requirements with the end result hopefully being a throw/blanket.
The requirements were: squares for portability, pattern interesting but easy enough to memorise (after making a few!), using 100% wool and no colour changes in the block. I would love to collect some yarn along the way, so I thought by starting in a neutral colour hopefully it will all come together in the end. Mum came to the rescue with a beautiful ball of Bendigo Luxury in ‘Ghost’, after I didn’t have much luck in Spotlight.
Initially I imagined using only 1 pattern and repeating that in different colours, but knowing I will get bored of that pretty quickly I thumbed through my 200 Crochet Blocks by Jan Eaton and picked 4 that I thought would look okay using just one colour per block.
I’m pretty happy with these four, and it feels good to the project already underway!
If you have the book mentioned – highly recommended by the way – the squares are (from top left to bottom right): Wisteria {113}, Queen Anne’s Lace {47}, Willow {189} and Centred Square {55}.

You chose wonderful squares, they look great. It is good to here feedback about Bendigo Woollen Mills Woollen range, I might try them next. So far I have only used their cotton.
Their wool is wonderful, if you try it you won’t be disappointed! It’s so nice to crochet with. I have only tried the Luxury though, not the classic
Oh wow! I just found your blog. I’m making a blanket out of the Willow square too. I love the colour you’ve chosen ~ just gorgeous.
Thank you! It’s a beautiful square, I really enjoyed making it. It would make a great blanket!
They are lovely Bec!
Thanks Kristy
What beautiful squares! A perfect travelling project. I’ve used luxury ghost before it is a lovely colour
They are lovely, and it’s such a nice idea – when you get it all made up you’ll be able to look back and think of your travels
Good choice of blocks too!
Wow! They are truly beautiful!
I like the single colour. It’s not something I would normally choose but it emphasises the patterns and textures of the block. Very stylish.
What a good idea bec. It will be a great memory blanket. Safe travels too and hope you enjoy some beautiful times. Lee. Xx
